The Craft Gallery of Artisans United
The Craft Gallery of Artisans United Inc. was organized in 1987. Open year round, it functions as a retail space for local artists to sell and showcase their works while educating the public about quality crafts.
Shop for Fine Handmade Crafts
Located in the Fred M. Packard Building, just down from the intersection of Hummer Road and Route 236, The Craft Gallery offers many one-of a-kind items. Among the crafts are wood turning items, various forms of fiber arts, baskets, pottery, and jewelry.
Learn from Local Artists in Virginia
On a daily basis, visitors will find The Craft Gallery staffed by congenial artisans eager to explain their crafting techniques, and often they will discover impromptu demonstrations in progress.
There are six two-month craft shows a year. Each new craft show is highlighted by a theme or features a member guild with special exhibits and/or craft demonstrations.
Sell at The Craft Gallery
The Craft Gallery is a cooperative endeavor, staffed and run by member artists. Members sell fine crafts and art works on a consignment basis. Items are displayed boutique style by color and every two month a new craft show is installed.
Teach Arts and Crafts Techniques
Artisans United is a non-profit organization. With education as one of our goals The Craft Gallery of Artisans United is much more than a retail space. Each member is encouraged to be actively invoved in our community outreach progrm by offering hands-on demonstrations and workshops of his or her craft to the community throughout the year.
Requirements for Gallery Membership
As a member of The Craft Gallery each artist is required to work 16 hours per month at the desk, attend bimonthly meetings, complete assigned in-house administrative jobs such as hospitality, sunshine, record keeping, and a number of other little jobs as well.
The Craft Gallery of Artisans United is marketed through social media such as Facebook and Twitter and by word of mouth among members, and their friends and family.
Review Board/Jury Committee
New members are accepted into The Craft Gallery by a review board which meets bimonthly. When accepted, the new member is asked to submit digital photos of his or her craft as well as a short artist biography along with a personal statement about techniques and inspiration. Both will be used in our Juried Artist Leger available to gallery visitors and on this website.
