Guild Profile - The Clay Connection

The Clay Connection is a non-profit organization and was established in 1991 to promote clay arts in the Washington metropolitan area by educating members about the art, styles, and techniques of creating pottery; promoting community awareness and appreciation of pottery as a hobby, a profession, and an art form; and exposing members to the local, regional, national, and international community of potters. The Clay Connection publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Cracked Pot, and maintains a web site at www.theclayconnection.org. It sponsors the Biennial Mid-Atlantic Clay Conference, the Annual Empty Bowls Charity Event, and the High School Student Clay Competition and Exhibit.

Monthly programs focus on exchanging knowledge and ideas through special exhibits, technical workshops, visiting artists, studio visits, hands-on workshops, and panel discussions on issues facing working potters. Membership is open to all potters at every level, from beginners to hobbyists to full-time professionals. Volunteers from the membership carry out all activities sponsored by The Clay Connection.
